Gaming Philosophical

Brain Meltage

For a long time, my buddies Ceejay and Bob have told me of a webcomic that was fun called CTRL-ALT-DELETE. So last night I decided to look it up. I then spent the rest of the night reading the entire archive, which went back to about 2002 or something. I haven't done that in ages, not since I discovered Little Gamers and Kevin and Kell a few years back. No wonder I need to wear glasses.

Gettin' Philosophical about gaming

I've woken up today feeling in quite a philosophical mood. I often refer to myself as a 'Christian Gamer', and most of the time, rightly so. I love God and I play a lot of games. But I've come to realise recently that since getting my new job I've played less and less games. There's a few good reasons for this.

Firstly FFXI. More often than not I play a big chuck of it on the night before my day off so that it doesn't mes me up for work. So tonight, I'm planning some FFXI. :) But my hours dictate that I only get two days off- one of which is Sunday, which is *almost* like a workday now I don't have a car. (I mean, I need to get up early and go somewhere so playing til 1am- not an option.)

Then there's my days off. Because I only get one mid week day.. everything that needs to be done for the week gets done on that day. So I'm running around doing housework and shopping and a squillion other things. There's no time.

Also to consider is the Bexs factor. I've realised that I'm not not playing games in order not to disturb Bexs. All our entertainment is in the one room. The PC, the PS2's, the TV's. We did this so that we could be toghether when I was gaming or surfing the net and she was watching TV or planning her kids things. Recently I've not played because I didn't want to disturb Bexs watching TV. And she watches an insane amount of TV. So instead of playing games, I end up surfing the net or just slobbing in front of the TV, so as not to disturb her, all the time adding a little bit of resentment that I can't do what I want. Which is stupid. And it's all in my head for the most part. This one is the biggie. I think I've been a bit over-zealous with this one. I know for a fact that she wouldn't care if I went online and blew some stuff up- just as long as I have the sound at a level that won't disturb the TV. We've been here before and talked about it before and she's told me that I was being dumb.

Conclusion

Actually.. just putting my thoughts down has really helped me to understand that once again I'm being daft. There's other reasons that I've not been gaming. They include stuff like having a game library that I've played to death and so don't grip me as much. And besides, at the end of the month I'll be getting Phantasy Star Universe, which is an Online RPG that will probably grab me as much as FFXI did. Plus, this time around both me AND Bexs will be playing it. And once cash starts rolling in properly, and I finally work out when I'm suppsed to go to bed nowadays, I'm sure things will return to what feels normal. right, with that in mind, I'm off to nab a cuppa and chill out a bit before work.

Hey, dude!
Regarding the 'games library I've played to death' thing - between Ceej and myself we have a vast library of games just itching for a new lease of life in the Red's PS2's.

Just say the word, and we can sort out copious amounts of lendage! Do you want single player? 2 player with Bex? We can pick some for yuz if ya like. :)

I'd suggest you get your hands on Lego Star Wars, and play through that with Bex, its a great fun, simple co-op game. Surely there isn't that much on tv worth watching anyhow.

Tim: you forgot my vast library of games ^___~
